Abstract
There is, even in recent literature, a wide diversity of opinion as to the best method of treatment of fracture of the upper end of the tibia. The problem can be simplified somewhat, I believe, if one fairly large group of cases is segregated and the treatment outlined in some detail. No attempt will be made to cover the whole field of fractures of the upper end of the tibia. Of seventy-five consecutive cases of fracture of the upper end of the tibia admitted to the Massachusetts General Hospital Fracture Clinic, thirty (40 per cent) were fractures of the outer condyle without associated fracture of the fibula. This represents the largest single type of fracture in this region.
