Causes of re-operation for postoperative femoral shaft fractures and countermeasures

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the surgical management for the fractures of postoperative femoral shaft fractures treated using internal fixation.Methods: Datas of 15 patients with re-operation for postoperative femoral shaft fractures were studied retrospectively,including causes,surgical procedures and preventive measures.Results: The fixing steel plates and nails were removed by surgery after the fractures healed soundly,functions of the legs recovered well in 13 cases,partial dysfunction of flexion of the knees occurred in 2 cases.Conclusion: The causes of re-operation for fractures of postoperative femoral shaft fractures are the initial treatment,materials for internal fixation,the operative technique,inadequate management of the bone fragments and defects of fractures,the indications of surgery,postoperative rehabilitation training and so on.The key to prevent re-operation is to manage the causes mentioned above properly.
