Abstract

Technology systems enabled by Artificial Intelligence (AI) involve human-like abilities to assist the essential work of medical professionals. Through their adaptiveness, complex information processing, and interactivity, these systems hold a high potential for stressful work environments to counteract decisional uncertainty. Nevertheless, AIenabled Clinical Decision Support Systems (CDSS) for Emergency Departments (ED) still struggle to unfold their potential due to limited trust and deficient interaction with medical professionals. While elaborated theories for Technology Acceptance reach contextual boundaries of their explanatory power, essential factors for collaboration between human and AI-enabled system, like trust, need to be further examined regarding their impact on technological adoption. Therefore, we intend to investigate how trust of medical professionals toward CDSS in EDs is affected by main design features and how successful collaboration can be build or strengthened. To achieve this objective, we propose an experimental study with medical professionals.
