Diagnosing Patient Health Conditions and Improving the Patient Experience: An Application of AI and ML

Abstract

The techniques of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) are widely used in many fields such as industry, financial services, health care, and social media. Here we mainly focus on health care. The AI and ML techniques are used in various divisions of the health care sector. Brain tumour, cancer cell detection in the lungs, identifying tuberculosis, and speech disorder detection are the few of the major applications. ML and AI techniques are not only used to detect the diseases but are also used for the best user experience such as appointment checking, scheduling a meeting with patients, reminding a doctor of an upcoming surgery, and training patients before undertaking surgery. An AI-powered chatbot is also used for allocating a specialist to the patients. AI and ML analyze a patient's health care record and suggest a solution after completing the patient's surgery under the doctor's review. This chapter discusses AI application in health care in which not only doctors but also patients, drug companies, insurance companies, and hospitals can also have an AI approach.
