Abstract

In recent years, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been rapidly gaining widespread adoption. However, due to limited opportunities for passive acquisition of information regarding the latest research and advancements in the field of laboratory medicine, the Nara Association of Medical Technologists organized a seminar on AI and conducted an online survey. This initiative aimed to explore the perception of Japanese medical technologists and the significance of disseminating information about emerging technologies. The survey results revealed that 62.9% of respondents had a positive attitude towards AI utilization, with 63.3% emphasizing its role in advancing healthcare and benefiting patients. Notably, 31.5% expressed agreement with the statement that "the final verification of results should always be performed by medical technologists," reflecting their view of AI as a tool to support their work. Moreover, 79.9% of respondents indicated that they had not actively engaged in information gathering, and 74.8% stated that they did not use AI services in their daily lives. This can be attributed to the fact that AI implementation is scarcely carried out in our country and is not perceived as a practical concern. It also reflects a lack of interest or a cautious attitude toward new technologies and developments. However, 63.9% of participants expressed a proactive stance in future information gathering, suggesting that the seminar may have served as a catalyst for change. Therefore, in the context of continuing education for Japanese medical technologists, we believe there is value in seminars focusing on emerging technologies before they become widespread.
