AI's Role in the Academic Writing Process: An Exploration for University Students

Abstract

Artificial intelligence has begun to play a significant role in the academic writing process for university students. This study examines, through a systematic scope literature review, how the integration of artificial intelligence can benefit students in their task of writing academic papers. First, the use of artificial intelligence as an additional tool in academic writing is analyzed, including automatic content generation, grammar and spelling correction, as well as the suggestion of structures and arguments. Generative artificial intelligence can act as a virtual assistant that provides support at every stage of the writing process, complementing students' knowledge and skills instead of replacing them. Students must be aware of possible risks and take precautions to ensure the integrity and originality of their work.
