Abstract

In higher education, learners prepare to achieve future career aspirations by strategically selecting suitable courses within their degree program to increase their employability. Emerging generative artificial intelligence technologies like ChatGPT pave the way for personalized curriculum planning based on future career goals and the current skill profile of the learner. For outlining skill gaps, such models employ natural language processing techniques to identify relevant skills from job advertisements and compare them with existing course materials to provide personalized curriculum recommendations. Such personalized curriculum paths are expected to increase learners' empowerment and satisfaction and improve learning outcomes. Drawing upon an exemplary use case, we analyze the opportunities of generative AI technology for personalized curriculum planning and elaborate on the necessary prerequisites and the mechanisms for personalized curriculum planning. This chapter aims to guide educational institutions, teachers, and students to use generative AI technology to create personalized course plans and be prepared for their dream jobs.
