Abstract

This chapter delves into the relationship between artificial intelligence (AI) and gender equality by exploring how AI can both empower gender balance and perpetuate biases and underrepresentation issues simultaneously in society worldwide impacting women's access to education and job opportunities. AI can help in promoting fairness through improved data representation and personalized learning while also posing risks of reinforcing inequalities if not monitored carefully. This chapter examines the practices in AI and emphasizes the need to incorporate gender perspectives into the creation and advancement of AI technologies by promoting diversity. It argues for developing gender sensitive AI solutions that can systematically eliminate barriers and promote fairness in society. The chapter highlights the importance of cooperation between developers, policy makers, and educational bodies to utilize AI as a means, for promoting equality.
