Transforming Healthcare through Generative AI

Abstract
The advent of data science during the last decade created significant technologies that have made a huge impact on our lives in general, as well as in the healthcare process in particular, especially by means of artificial intelligence (AI). The AI-driven healthcare solutions help healthcare practitioners with various tasks from administrative workflow, clinical documentation, image analysis and patient monitoring. Among AI solutions in healthcare, generative AI has received a lot of attention recently. The reason for this attention is due to the ability of this technology to create new data which includes text and images, for example, which would help medical researchers and clinicians improve disease diagnosis and patient treatment and lead to delivering better health outcomes. Generative AI could improve several aspects of healthcare by learning data distributions from real-world data and then generating new verified synthetic data that could be used to enhance the efficiency of clinical workflows. This chapter begins with receiving different data and then moves through different areas of generative AI, including how generative AI would change the healthcare process; challenges and issues; the revolution of generative AI, especially ChatGPT; progress in electronic health records (EHRs); opportunities; different forms of generative AI; generative AI applications; and FAQs about generative AI.
