Abstract
ABSTRACT Cancer research predominantly centers on diagnosis, treatment, and elucidation of underlying mechanisms. Nevertheless, the intricate nature of tumor genesis and development has rendered early diagnostic and therapeutic outcomes less than optimal, making tumor conquest a formidable challenge. The interdisciplinary fusion of medicine and engineering, termed the “intersection of medicine and engineering”, has emerged as a groundbreaking research paradigm, offering novel avenues for advancing cancer studies. As this interdisciplinary approach evolves, it has yielded numerous breakthroughs in cancer diagnosis, treatment, and mechanistic exploration. In this review, we summarize how the intersection of medicine and engineering propels the progress of cancer research by leveraging the combined strengths of medicine, bioinformatics, materials science, and artificial intelligence. This approach addresses the limitations of traditional cancer diagnostics and therapies, such as low sensitivity, poor efficacy, significant side effects, and the challenges associated with mechanistic exploration. Moreover, we highlight global cutting‐edge advancements and potential future directions in this field.
