Abstract
Artificial intelligence (AI) is everywhere. As more and more people frequently interact with AI, social researchers must expand knowledge about the importance and challenges associated with generative AI technologies based on studies using rigorous data collection methods. This chapter discusses data collection methodologies, including quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods to study AI in social science research. Employing a cross-sectional case study comprising over 400 college students’ knowledge, perception and use of AI technologies, the results showed that most respondents used ChatGPT. Although participants utilized other AI tools, concerns ranged from accuracy and reliability of information to issues of academic integrity.
