Abstract
The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) within the metaverse has introduced unprecedented opportunities for digital interaction, immersive experiences, and innovative research. However, these advancements bring significant ethical challenges concerning privacy, security, and research integrity. A central concern is the safeguarding of privacy in environments where personal data can be easily collected, analyzed, and manipulated by AI systems. Security risks, including the potential for malicious AI-driven actions, are critical, as users' digital identities and assets face growing threats from cyber-attacks and unauthorized access. Moreover, the metaverse introduces complex ethical dilemmas in research settings, particularly around data integrity, consent, and the potential for AI to perpetuate biases. By addressing these concerns, this chapter aims to provide a foundation for ethical practices in the metaverse, ensuring that AI technologies contribute positively to virtual communities and research domains.
