Abstract
Palliative care advocates comprehensive care and requires a specialized multi-professional team. Respiratory disorders are common and non-invasive ventilation is a good resource for dealing with patients with such clinical conditions. However, its use is very controversial in palliative care and it is common for physiotherapists to differ on its indication. In view of this, this study proposes the construction of computer models based on machine learning techniques, which can be used as a resource to support decision-making in palliative care. The research used Bio-ORACLE software, which offers three different techniques – Naïve Bayes, Perceptron Multilayer and Support Vector Machine – for building decision support models in situations of (bio)ethical conflict. The data used to create the models was obtained from decisions made by five physiotherapist bioethicists. The results showed that Bio-ORACLE can be an important ally in supporting more assertive decision-making in palliative care.
