The Role of an Artificial Intelligence in the Detection and Protection of Sensitive Information (medical records to personal files): A Review

Abstract

This review investigates how artificial intelligence (AI) technologies are applied to detect, classify, and protect sensitive information, particularly within domains involving highly confidential data such as medical records and personal files. It examines the underlying AI techniques—such as machine learning, natural language processing, and deep learning—that enable automated identification and security enforcement, as well as their integration in real-world systems. The review also assesses the effectiveness, ethical considerations, and challenges associated with deploying AI for information privacy and data protection. A lot of sensitive information, ranging from medical records to personal files, is shared among different parties including hospitals, institutions, and government on a regular basis. The privacy and confidentiality of these sensitive documents is important issue for concerned individuals and organizations. Considering this, researchers in the domain of information security have employed artificial intelligence to increase the privacy and security of sectors that deal with sensitive information. In recent years, several studies have been conducted to address the privacy issues related to sensitive information and for developing techniques for effective deployment of privacy protection.
