Abstract
This chapter surveys the ethics of artificial intelligence in digital communication. Algorithms that filter, rank, and even compose content now mediate how ideas circulate, yet they also spark concerns about transparency, privacy, bias, and opinion manipulation. The discussion weighs AI's gains—personalised messaging, automated production, efficient moderation—against the moral risks hidden in opaque data use and discriminatory models. Adopting a communication-science lens, it reviews key governance efforts like the EU's draft AI Act and UNESCO/OECD guidelines, showing growing global recognition of AI's social impact. The chapter argues that engineers, platforms, and policymakers must embed human dignity, democratic participation, and social justice into system design and oversight. It concludes with a call to place ethical reflection at the core of future communication infrastructures.
