Abstract
Chapter 3 explores the transformative potential of generative AI (GenAI) tools in higher education, focusing on their applications in research, teaching, and assessment. Acting as a knowledge broker, it bridges the research-practice gap by providing university educators with actionable insights for the effective and ethical integration of GenAI tools. Drawing on empirical evidence, the chapter highlights GenAI’s capabilities in performing advanced statistical and qualitative analyses, supporting personalized learning, and enhancing assessment practices. It also addresses critical challenges, including model limitations and gaps in AI literacy among university educators and students, while emphasizing the importance of human oversight and informed use. A conceptual framework is introduced, illustrating a continuum from passive adoption to active engagement, underpinned by the AI-TPACK framework, to ensure responsible and impactful GenAI integration in higher education. The chapter concludes with recommendations for partners, advocating for targeted professional development, evidence-based practices, and strategic policy-making to fully realize GenAI’s potential in higher education.
