Abstract
ABSTRACT As artificial intelligence (AI) rapidly transforms higher education, faculty are increasingly expected to integrate AI tools into curriculum design, assessment, and instruction, often without adequate preparation. This article examines how Centers for Teaching and Learning (CTLs) can effectively support faculty adopting AI technologies through professional development informed by adult learning principles. Drawing on experiential applications and the authors’ development work, we examine four key instructional uses of AI: course design, inclusive teaching, scaffolding, and feedback. We present an approach for effective AI‐focused faculty development that emphasizes contextual relevance, hands‐on learning, reflective dialogue, and sustained support. Anchored in adult education theory, this article offers a practical, ethically informed roadmap to help faculty navigate AI's instructional possibilities while upholding teaching integrity and promoting equitable learning environments.
