Abstract
The transformative potential of Digital Health technologies in Primary Care is immense. Emerging advancements, including artificial intelligence (AI)-driven decision support and telehealth innovations, offer opportunities to improve diagnostic accuracy, patient engagement, and care accessibility. Although evidence is rapidly accumulating on the benefits of specific digital tools for different aspects of quality of care (e.g., timeliness), it is key to further evaluate their implementation and impact on care quality across different contexts. The rapid deployment of Digital Health technologies often outpaces rigorous evaluation, raising concerns about their long-term impact on health equity, other aspects of quality of care, and their sustainability. The implementation of Digital Health in Primary Care should align with a long-term vision for health reform that is focused on enhancing patient and population health outcomes, improving care efficiency, promoting equity, and enriching the experiences of both patients and healthcare professionals. Effective integration of Digital Health in Primary Care requires a unified approach that involves all stakeholders, with a careful consideration of infrastructure, population needs, workforce training, funding, and resource allocation. Successful implementation of technology into digitally enabled models of care can merge the strengths of digital tools with the irreplaceable value of face-to-face interactions to augment Primary Care delivery.
