Abstract

Global medical and surgical missions in low and middle-income countries (LMICs) encounter ethical challenges including sustainability, disruption of local health care systems, informed consent, and unintended patient harm. However, artificial intelligence (AI) demonstrates potential in addressing these issues by enhancing education and training for host country clinical partners (HCCPs) and patient populations (HCPPs). The objective of this article is to discuss the ethical issues surrounding global health missions and how culturally sensitive and locally tailored AI solutions can ensure equitable and sustainable educational opportunities in resource-limited settings.
