Abstract
ABSTRACT This poster reports preliminary findings from an online survey of 191 college students in South Korea examining their learning and use of Generative AI (Gen AI) tools, perceived benefits, and institutional support. Participants mainly used Gen AI for academic tasks, such as doing assignments, and also reported using Gen AI in everyday life, notably for topics such as travel planning, entertainment recommendation, and mental health. However, while 89.5% of participants had experience in using Gen AI, only 33.5% received support for Gen AI use from universities or university libraries. A majority used self‐learning to learn how to use Gen AI, and more commonly used learning methods were not necessarily more helpful learning methods for Gen AI. Our findings suggest opportunities to help students learn how to use Gen AI effectively and responsibly. This research contributes to an empirical study of college students’ Gen AI use for academic and everyday life contexts, calling for more institutional support and human‐centered research for equitable access to and effective use of Gen AI for college students.
