Abstract
This chapter analyzes the influence of AI and technological innovation on interpretation, highlighting the related opportunities and challenges. The chapter emphasizes the difference between translation and interpretation. This discussion examines AI tools such as speech-to-text systems, automatic speech recognition, and real-time interpretation applications, while highlighting their current limitations in accuracy, cultural nuance, and emotional resonance. This chapter analyzes the potential for interpreters to employ digital glossaries, wearable devices, and remote platforms to enhance performance. Ethical considerations, including privacy, bias, and the risk of dehumanization within the profession, are examined, along with the changing role of interpreters as cultural mediators and skilled technology users. The chapter concludes by suggesting a future where AI augments human expertise rather than supplants it, emphasizing the enduring importance of human judgment, adaptability, and cultural sensitivity in interpretation.
