Abstract
This book chapter examines the growing role of artificial intelligence (AI) in improving mental health services for students and highlights both the opportunities and challenges associated with its use. AI applications are increasingly being integrated into learning and counseling processes, mitigating the limitations of traditional learning and counseling services. Significant benefits such as increased accessibility, faster decision-making, reduced stigma, and personalized psychological interventions are crucial for student mental health. However, each student is unique, and therefore, the symptoms of mental health disorders may vary from student to student. Furthermore, the similarity of symptoms across mental disorders and the lack of standardized measurement tools used in the diagnostic process can negatively impact the diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities of AI. Despite risks, AI holds promise for improving the effectiveness of mental health interventions in education when developed in collaboration with mental health professionals.
