Mapping the Landscape of AI Research in Higher Education

Abstract

The rapid advancement of science and technology has significantly increased research in artificial intelligence (AI) within higher education institutions. This paper utilizes CiteSpace to extract multidimensional information—including keywords, authors, institutions, and journals—from a substantial body of academic literature, constructing a comprehensive knowledge map of AI research in higher education. A detailed analysis of this knowledge map uncovers key research hotspots, emerging trends, and the distribution of scholarly efforts. Although the overall publication trend indicates a rising trajectory, Price's Law suggests that a core group of influential authors has yet to emerge. Current research themes encompass AI, higher education, learning, new engineering, and big data. The evolution analysis illustrates dynamic shifts in research topics, revealing the emergence of new themes and the decline of older ones, thereby reflecting ongoing activity and developmental directions in this field.
