Strategic Utilization of AI in Research and Development

Abstract

This chapter explores the strategic utilization of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Research and Development (R&D), focusing on its applications and ethical dilemmas in warfare, human development, and social justice. The objective is to analyze how AI can simultaneously drive innovation and pose governance challenges. A mixed-methods approach was employed, incorporating quantitative surveys, qualitative expert interviews, case studies, and policy document analysis. The findings indicate significant advancements in AI deployment, particularly in military precision, healthcare efficiency, and decision automation. However, the study also reveals persistent ethical issues such as algorithmic bias, opacity, and inadequate accountability frameworks. The conclusions underscore the need for integrated, context-sensitive governance models and stronger global coordination. Implications point toward fostering inclusive, transparent, and accountable AI ecosystems that align with societal values and legal standards.
