Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) has witnessed remarkable growth in recent years, capturing global attention for its transformative potential across multiple sectors. Dentistry, in particular, has emerged as a major beneficiary of this technological evolution, with AI now integrated into various diagnostic, clinical, and administrative workflows. This narrative review explores the evolving applications of AI in prosthodontics, synthesizing contemporary evidence and expert perspectives to highlight its current roles and future possibilities.Within prosthodontics, the scope of AI has expanded far beyond conventional automation. Advanced AI-driven systems now support clinicians in designing maxillofacial prostheses, optimizing digital impressions, refining occlusal schemes, and simulating treatment outcomes with unprecedented precision. These technologies minimize human error while enhancing the accuracy, reproducibility, and predictability of prosthetic rehabilitation.AI also strengthens patient documentation and clinical decision-making. Automated data analysis, structured electronic record-keeping, and seamless integration with digital imaging modalities—including CBCT, intraoral scanners, and facial scans—facilitate comprehensive evaluation of patient data. In diagnosis and treatment planning, AI enables earlier detection of oral conditions, development of personalized prosthetic strategies, and improved patient communication through visual simulations and digital mock-ups.In the domain of patient management, AI-powered scheduling systems, tele-dentistry interfaces, and predictive analytics improve workflow efficiency and elevate patient satisfaction. Collectively, these advancements demonstrate how AI functions as a powerful adjunct in prosthodontics, supporting clinicians in delivering high-quality, efficient, and patient-centered care.As technology continues to evolve, AI is poised to exert an even greater influence on prosthodontic practice. This narrative review underscores the need for ongoing research, ethical oversight, and structured clinical validation to ensure that AI-enhanced prosthodontics remains safe, effective, and aligned with patient needs.
