Navigating the AI Footprint in the Educational Landscape

Abstract
The central focus of this study is the "AI footprint" in Education as consequence of the increasing integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI). We analyze recent research to understand the AI footprint – the data generated and left online by students and educators – its associated risks, and potential mitigation strategies. The expanding "AI footprint" presents humanity with a new opportunity: while it raises concerns about data collection processed by complex algorithms, it also opens up immense opportunities by enriching our digital heritage and cultural memory. This review identifies key trends, research gaps, and future directions for new investigations, emphasizing the significance of the AI footprint in shaping the educational landscape.
