Abstract
The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into identity management systems has introduced transformative efficiencies in authentication, verification, and fraud detection. However, this advancement also raises substantial ethical concerns regarding transparency, fairness, privacy, and accountability. This paper provides a comprehensive analysis of the ethical implications of AI in identity systems, grounded in theoretical foundations and informed by current research, case studies, and regulatory challenges. Key areas of concern include algorithmic opacity, biometric surveillance, real-time verification trade-offs, and cross-border governance inconsistencies. By examining diverse stakeholder perspectives and real-world failures, this study underscores the need for explainable AI, inclusive governance, and interdisciplinary approaches to ethical AI design. The findings call for robust policy frameworks and international cooperation to ensure that AI identity systems are not only technologically sound but also aligned with fundamental human rights and social values.
