Abstract
Artificial intelligence (AI) has rapidly transformed higher education, offering opportunities to enhance learning while raising concerns about academic integrity. This study examines how university students utilize AI tools in academic assignments, emphasizing perceived benefits, challenges, and ethical implications. A survey was administered to undergraduate and postgraduate students from various disciplines. The findings indicate that students perceive AI as beneficial for improving efficiency, enhancing work quality, and generating creative ideas. However, they also reported challenges related to accuracy, overreliance, subscription costs, and data privacy. Ethical concerns, particularly regarding plagiarism and academic honesty, emerged as key issues. Overall, the results underscore the dual role of AI in higher education supporting learning yet challenging established notions of integrity. The study provides empirical insights to inform institutional policies, training, and guidelines that promote responsible and ethical AI use.
