Abstract
Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) are transforming industries by automating complex decision-making processes and enabling innovative solutions across various sectors, from healthcare and finance to transportation and education. However, as these technologies advance, they introduce significant ethical and legal challenges that must be addressed to ensure their responsible development and deployment. This chapter explores the ethical and legal considerations related to AI and ML, focusing on issues such as bias, fairness, transparency, accountability, data privacy, and intellectual property. By analyzing these concerns and examining current frameworks like the IEEE’s Ethically Aligned Design and the EU’s AI Regulation, the chapter outlines essential steps for mitigating risks, ensuring compliance with data protection laws, and fostering global collaboration to create universal standards for AI governance. As AI and ML continue to shape the future, proactive efforts from governments, organizations, and ethicists are necessary to ensure these technologies are used for the greater good of humanity.
