Abstract

AI has revolutionized all sectors, and the educational sector is no exception. AI in education is gradually reshaping the entire spectrum for students and educators. Given its capacity, it has a far-reaching impact on both students and educators. This inclusion and adoption have also brought multifaceted challenges for the institutions and the people responsible for planning, designing, and implementing AI in higher education. The ethical use of AI mediums introduced in higher education is a significant concern. These systems may risk creating vulnerabilities in students’ data usage and the unethical use of AI to perform their daily tasks. Privacy concerns linked to data usage, have also been raised by the people adopting these AI systems in higher education. A limited number of studies have been conducted to evaluate the impact of ethical issues in AI integration in education. This study used a descriptive survey to obtain feedback from educators. The findings of the study reveal the ethical concerns of the students and teachers related to the ethics of AI in higher education. This research contributes to preparing stakeholders with the correct skill set to use AI technologies ethically. The paper focuses on these ethical concerns of the students, educators, and policymakers. It also diverts the attention of the educators and policymakers towards fulfilling their institutional obligations to address these growing ethical concerns through effective policymaking, governance, and institutional reforms, through which AI can be ethically implemented and practiced in higher education.
