Abstract
Teaching software standards frequently encounters challenges related to student motivation and understanding of technical documents. This paper proposes a gamified instructional strategy supported by generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools to enhance learning outcomes in an undergraduate software development course. The design includes mission-based tasks and simulated audit scenarios, structured around key standards such as software testing (IEEE 29119), configuration management (IEEE 828), and the CMMI model. ChatGPT was integrated as an interactive assistant to provide real-time guidance and formative feedback during the activities. A quasi-experimental study was conducted with a control group to evaluate academic performance and student engagement. Results suggest a significant advance in students’ conceptual retention and active participation, as well as a positive perception of the use of AI-enhanced gamification. This work contributes to the pedagogical understanding of ethical and effective AI utilization in computer science education and offers a replicable model for standards-based instruction.
