Abstract
This chapter elaborates the influence of artificial intelligence (AI) on patient engagement within smart health systems. Traditional methods of patient engagement often lack personalization, scalability, and continuous interaction. AI-driven solutions, such as chatbots, virtual assistants, predictive analytics, personalized health education, and remote monitoring, address these limitations by providing round-the-clock, tailored support to patients. Predictive analytics enable healthcare providers to identify at-risk patients and intervene early, improving adherence and health outcomes. Personalized health education tailors information to individual patient needs, empowering informed decision-making. Remote monitoring and telehealth integration facilitate continuous engagement and timely interventions, particularly for chronic disease management. The chapter also discusses the benefits of AI-driven patient engagement, including enhanced personalization, scalability, continuous engagement, cost-effectiveness, and optimized resource utilization. Looking ahead, advancements in AI technologies and integration with emerging technologies like IoT and blockchain hold promise for further enhancing patient engagement. Collaborative and co-design approaches involving patients and healthcare providers will ensure these solutions meet user needs and foster widespread acceptance. AI-driven patient engagement is going to fuel the future of smart health systems in doing more of personalized, efficient, and patient-centric care.
