Abstract
This study comprehensively analyzes the Altmetric impact of the term artificial intelligence in library and information science. For this study, 17977 research articles were listed in publications between 2026 to 2025 as the dimension database. The analyzed 5182 research papers were tracked by Altmetric.com. Of these, 4586 received an Altmetric Attention Score (AAS). These 4586 articles received a total of 81330 AAS score in the Year 2016-2025, as an average 17.75 per article. The highest average AAS 7117(33.89) was in 2018 and year wise analysis showed that 2023 was the most impactful 16471 AAS. Significant academic engagement was also observed on Mendeley, with a total of 3,35,732 readers. A weak but positive correlation (r =0.2886) was found between the Altmetric Attention Score and traditional citations, indicating that Altmetrics measure a distinct and complementary aspect of research impact. Therefore, the use of Altmetrics is valuable for evaluating the broader digital and social impact of AI research in the LIS field.
