The Role of AI in the Future Attainment of Sustainable Development Goals in India

Abstract

Artificial Intelligence is the most powerful tool to drive considerable impacts on the achievement of SDGs in India. As such, a rapidly growing country facing several social, economic, and environmental challenges, India will highly benefit from the integration of AI technologies in the pursuit of SDGs. This article attempts to discuss how Artificial Intelligence is helping India to advance sustainable development in several major areas of human development-it includes healthcare, agriculture, education, and environmental conservation. AI can be used by India in a way that poverty and bad quality education can be eradicated from the land, easy access to healthcare is provided, food security, and the environment can be kept sustainable. There are several challenges and ethics that should be addressed, however, for AI to not become a curse in disguise and to be used in ethical ways that are beneficial to all sectors of society. The discussion on the potential for AI to revolutionize the approach to development in India, which can guide stakeholders to further AI to facilitate the pace towards reaching the SDGs, is worthy of note.
