Abstract
The rapid integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in education has sparked growing interest in understanding students’ attitudes toward its use. This study investigates students’ perceptions of AI in higher education through survey data that was collected in 2025 from 1,014 students across seven universities. The study focuses on students, as they are the primary users and beneficiaries of AI-based learning tools. Understanding their perceptions provides a critical lens for evaluating the real-world impact, effectiveness, and ethical concerns of AI integration in education. The data analysis was both descriptive and thematic. Findings reveal that students appreciate, among other things, AI’s capabilities for personalized learning, real-time feedback, research and writing assistance, and AI-powered tutoring and support. However, students also expressed concerns about AI dependency, data privacy, and potential biases in AI systems. The study contributes to the global discourse on AI in higher education, offering insights for educators, policymakers, as well as developers. It also identified key areas of research to advance the beneficial usage of AI in higher education institutions. Future research could explore how academic programs can integrate digital literacy and AI-critical thinking skills to mitigate the risks of misinformation and over-reliance, ensuring responsible and informed AI use among students.
