Abstract
The present study investigated the potential use of an artificial intelligence-based application, originally developed for the early diagnosis of dementia (the AI app), as an early frailty detection tool in older adults.A total of 173 community-dwelling, independent older adults participated in an assessment combining a cognitive function evaluation using the AI app and a frailty assessment using a questionnaire survey. The results obtained revealed correlations between AI-derived cognitive function scores and the total score of the Kihon Checklist, a comprehensive frailty assessment tool, as well as its social functioning and cognitive function subscale scores. These results suggest the applicability of the AI app for frailty screening.Future work will focus on modifying the AI app to facilitate early frailty detection and to promote behavioral changes that support frailty prevention.
