Abstract

Amid the constantly evolving situation of criminal activities, the implementation of synthetic intelligence is progressively being recognized as an effective system, therefore providing optimism in the aftermath of increasing crime complexity. Law enforcement agencies, including the police, have already started the process of using Artificial Intelligence in such highly advanced tasks as crime prediction, facial recognition, video processing, and neuroimaging. However, the effective application of Artificial Intelligence requires the removal of challenges such as the inherent biases within the algorithms associated with the improper or unrepresentative dataset used for processing; thus, it is necessary to have unbiased and vast dataset collection, as well as cooperation from experts in other related disciplines. The algorithms of Artificial Intelligence must be designed with transparency as a feature, so the final conclusions reached by these algorithms are verifiable by human senses to prevent over-targeting. Apart from the requirement of technical application, there is another side, which is based on ethics, such as privacy, discrimination, or excessive use of force, requiring guidelines to prevent this issue.
