Exploring the Relationship between Demographic Attributes and the Perception and Use of AI Tools in Academia

Abstract

This paper examines the relationship between demographic characteristics and the perception and intensity of use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in academia. In the context of the growing importance of AI in education and research, particular attention was paid to the analysis of the influence of factors such as gender and place of residence of students (big city, medium city, small town or village) on the frequency of use of AI tools and their popularity. The authors conducted an empirical study with Polish university students, focusing on 17 groups of AI tool use. Based on survey data collected among students, the study showed significant differences in the frequency of use of AI tools and ratings of their popularity, depending on the respondents' gender. In addition, a correlation was noted between the students' place of residence and the intensity of use of AI technologies.
