Abstract
This article uses an infamous case of data falsification in clinical research as a starting point for a deeper analysis of some of the motivations and obligations that could encourage misconduct in a clinical setting. The article argues that the use of alternative, less rigid experimental designs and protocols could help lessen the pressures on researchers to falsify clinical data pertaining to patient records, and that it is worth considering alternative designs to benefit patients and help promote integrity in medical research.
