Abstract
In this issue of The Lancet Digital Health, extensions to the internationally recognised guidelines for the conduct and reporting of clinical trials, SPIRIT and CONSORT, have been co-published alongside our partners Nature Medicine and the BMJ. The new guidelines, named SPIRIT-AI and CONSORT-AI, were specifically developed for trials with an artificial intelligence (AI) component. The Lancet strongly supports accurate and transparent reporting of all research studies. Thus, these guidelines have been adopted by all Lancet journals and editors will mandate inclusion of these new checklists when reports of AI-intervention trials are submitted.
