Abstract
Computational Health Informatics is an outcome of the desire to improve the life-expectancy and general well-being of humans. Health-informatics was paper-based in the early 1970s and then converted into local relational databases in the mid-1980s when inexpensive secondary storage became available. End-user and machine interfaces lacked human-like intelligence, which created serious drawbacks when compared to earlier human-based data processing. With increased informatics technology and seamless integration, a huge amount of data has become available that needs to be archived and managed. The evolution in standards has accelerated as the adoption of the computerized healthcare system speeds up. The developed world will continue to forge forward with governmental agencies taking the initiative to develop policies, standards and incentives to improve healthcare decision making, promote patient-centric care, improve the quality and safety of medical management and promote the use of new clinical decision support systems for improved accuracy of diagnosis and prognosis.
