Abstract
What do self-driving cars, voice-controlled virtual assistants and 'robo-journalists' , which can automatically write and publish news articles, have in common? The development in these technology sectors is often driven by companies in the USA. Prominent examples would be Tesla, Amazon (with its Alexa assistant) and Automated Insights, a North Carolina-based provider of a text generator that has been used by, among others, the Associated Press since 2014 to produce simple news articles.
