Abstract
There is considerable enthusiasm for the future of AI in clinical practice to improve patient outcomes. There is also scepticism about what is truly possible, and concern that machines may inadvertently harm patients or create even more burden on physicians. How can a physician discern facts from hype? How can healthcare teams evaluate AI solutions for potential adoption in clinical practice? What should consumers be asking about tools that will support their healthcare? We propose a general framework that can be used to understand and evaluate the AI options for clinical use, exploring the limitations and risks with the value and benefits.
