Abstract
This review explores the potential role and risks of ChatGPT in nursing education and suggests strategies and recommendations for effective use of ChatGPT in nursing education. In nursing education, ChatGPT offers personalized learning, immediate feedback and simulation scenarios that can increase student engagement and knowledge acquisition. However, challenges such as accuracy, lack of human interaction, privacy and security issues, bias, discrepancies, over-reliance, and plagiarism and cheating need to be addressed. To overcome these challenges, various strategies and recommendations are proposed, including validating and verifying information, complementing human interaction, addressing privacy and security issues, promoting diversity, encouraging independent learning and critical thinking, and establishing collaborations between nursing educators and AI developers/researchers to enhance the pedagogical aspects of ChatGPT. While ChatGPT has the potential to revolutionize nursing education, however, nursing educators play a vital role in guiding the ethical and pedagogical use of ChatGPT. This will help ensure that ChatGPT makes the best possible contribution to the learning and development of nursing students. Future research should explore innovative ways to incorporate ChatGPT into nursing education while addressing the evolving needs of nursing students and educators.
