This paper provides a comprehensive overview of an essential higher education and research tool. As a "double-edged sword," ChatGPT offers promising benefits and potential ethical concerns. It could revolutionize global interactions, collaboration, and engagement among students and researchers. ChatGPT is a versatile tool, aiding students and educators in various ways, from answering questions to providing insights into complex subjects. Furthermore, it can function as a virtual tutor or mentor, offering tailored support and guidance to students. ChatGPT can be a valuable resource for researchers conducting literature reviews, formulating hypotheses, and analyzing data. This study is in need in view of the fast-growing integration of ChatGPT in higher education and research, offering a timely evaluation of its dual influence to inform decision-making and successful usage of AI technologies in academic contexts.
