Abstract
This paper presents an assessment of ChatGPT's proficiency in software development, using an online tour reservation system (TORS) as a case study. The findings indicate that ChatGPT has significant potential in software development, demonstrating its capabilities in assisting various activities throughout the development process, including requirements analysis, domain modeling, design modeling, and implementation. Notably, the model performed well in implementation, generating more than 90% of the code and fixing a majority of errors. It also demonstrated its capability in making design decisions in the design phase. However, the study also identified non-trivial limitations, such as a lack of traceability and inconsistencies among produced artifacts, which required human involvement. Overall, the results suggest that when combined with human developers, ChatGPT can serve as a valuable tool in software development. It has the potential to enhance productivity and efficiency in various aspects of the development process, while acknowledging the need for human expertise to mitigate the limitations.
