Application Research of Large Language Models in Medicine: Status, Problems, and Future

Abstract

This article reviews the research and application development of large language models (LLMs) in the medical field, as well as the challenges and opportunities they face. The article first introduces the basic concepts, development history, and key technologies of LLMs. Then, the article takes ChatGPT as an example, and summarizes the applications of LLMs in clinical fields such as clinical consultation, clinical history collection and medical documentation generation, clinical decision support, medical education, etc., and presents some cases to demonstrate the impressive but mixed results of LLMs in the medical field. Finally, the article discusses the future application prospects and challenges of LLMs in terms of interpretability, reliability, privacy protection, ethics, etc., and gives some suggestions for coping. LLMs have the potential to comprehensively reshape clinical medical technology development, and although they face many challenges, they will ultimately benefit patients and practitioners.
