Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore the perceptions and experiences of researchers from different disciplines who use language models like ChatGPT for academic purposes and to identify the benefits and drawbacks of this approach compared to traditional methods. The study aims to address the gap in understanding the ethical and legal implications of using chatbots like ChatGPT in academic research. It highlights the need for further research to explore the effectiveness and dependability of using chatbots in educational research, as well as the challenges and limitations associated with their use. The study uses a quantitative research approach to investigate education professionals' perceptions of the use of ChatGPT in research and the challenges and benefits of employing ChatGPTs in academic research. We collected data from 84 professionals and academicians working in various organizations. Data was analyzed using quantitative methods, including Multiple Regression Analysis in SPSS IBM. The study utilized Multiple Regression Analysis to examine the influence of independent variables on the dependent variable of satisfaction with ChatGPT. The independent variables included familiarity with ChatGPT as a chatbot platform, interest in using ChatGPT, perceived benefits of using ChatGPT, and other relevant factors. Additionally, the study considered the validity of data collected through language models like ChatGPT and the inclusivity of these models in enhancing inclusivity in academic research. These specific details on the variables considered in the analysis are crucial for assessing the study's rigor as they provide insight into the factors influencing satisfaction with ChatGPT and the broader implications of using language models in academic research. The study explored the perceptions and experiences of education professionals regarding the use of ChatGPTs, such as ChatGPT, for research purposes. The results showed that the participants had a moderately positive outlook on deploying ChatGPTs for research and recognized their potential to revolutionize the way we approach information gathering. The study not only offers insight into best practices for maximizing the potential of ChatGPT in academic research, but it also presents recommendations useful for other researchers and practitioners looking to utilize ChatGPT for educational purposes by identifying the benefits and drawbacks of this approach compared to traditional methods. ChatGPT adds value compared to traditional methods in several specific ways. Firstly, it provides a more enjoyable, interactive, and captivating experience for academic research compared to traditional methods. Additionally, ChatGPT saves time in academic research compared to traditional methods, enhancing efficiency. Furthermore, ChatGPT offers versatility and application in education and research, providing a cutting-edge tool for strengthening scholarly investigations. It also facilitates natural and engaging conversations with human participants, contributing to well-perceived data quality and reliability in educational research. Lastly, ChatGPT can enhance inclusivity in academic research by providing access to underrepresented groups and reducing barriers to participation. The study recommends that researchers and practitioners should consider the benefits and drawbacks of using ChatGPT in academic research compared to traditional methods. They should also focus on developing and deploying ChatGPT responsibly and ethically. Additionally, researchers and practitioners should further explore the effectiveness and dependability of using chatbots in educational research, considering the challenges and opportunities identified in the study. This research offers practical considerations for developing and deploying ChatGPT responsibly and ethically. The findings take us one step further in comprehending how ChatGPT’s can enhance research applications. They reveal that, as a learning tool, ChatGPT’s are efficient and valuable for both learners and researchers.
