Abstract
This chapter discusses the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in scholarly communications and academic research juxtaposing benefits/advantages and constraints of these new technologies in the context of academic librarianship. The latest development in AI impacts both the educational activities and the research process in academic institutions, hence libraries have to adapt in order to provide adequate support to diverse curricula and research projects. Accordingly, we explore various types of AI and how the roles of academic librarians are tuned to support all phases of AI driven research process – from formulation of hypothesis, to the dissemination of the results. In addition, we will look on AI's impact on scholarly communications from the perspective of librarians as experts in knowledge discovery and preservation.
