Abstract

In today’s era artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning will be increasingly applied in the healthcare sector due to complexity and increase of data in this field. These innovative techniques make performing healthcare tasks easier and quicker as compared with human beings. These techniques show significant improvement in diagnosis of diseases, treatment, care for patients and their data at administrative levels. Healthcare and life sciences companies use these efficient techniques to provide better facilities for their patients and customers. AI is also beneficial for medical research, detection of diseases, delivery of better health services and drug discovery. In this chapter, we will discuss how AI and machine learning are helpful in the modern healthcare sector and what are the various challenges in this field. AI algorithms can perform better than human beings in various instances like medical imaging analysis, prognosis of diseases, and managing electronics medical records. In the modern era, demand of healthcare services is increasing whereas all countries are facing shortage of healthcare physicians. In this scenario, the latest technologies are very helpful in managing the expectations and requirements of patients. Due to the increase in wireless technology and smartphones, patients expect on-demand healthcare services using apps on their mobiles. They require intelligent healthcare services anywhere at any time through remote interactions. In these scenarios, modern and innovative techniques are very effective for properly managing and providing smart health services to the patients in a timely manner.
